Rio Marié 2018 Season Fishing Report Week 1: Sept. 13 - 20

Week 1: Sept. 13 - 20

Weather: The weather during the first week of our 2018 season was sunny and hot most days. There were a few showers, and it was overcast midday, but the sun always came back. Temperatures ranged between 30–35°C.

River Conditions: Water levels dropped really fast every day at the headwaters of the Marié and Turi, but we still had great conditions for fishing. We fished the upper section of the Rio Marié, which presented several sand beaches, good shallow water, and lagoons and lakes in perfect conditions.

Jungle streams had the right water levels, and small jungle creeks had good levels as well. During the week, water dropped one foot, which was really good! The water conditions continue to improve.

Fishing Conditions: We were surprised with the incredible number of big peacocks in the river and lagoons. Most of them were caught on streamers, but some took poppers aggressively. The mouths of the jungle creeks weren’t as productive, but better water levels made the shallow water on lagoons the place to find big fish. We had good sight fishing conditions for big fish in the lagoons, especially during midday, when the temperature was really hot.

Fishing Stats:

Number of anglers: 8
Butterflies caught: 212
Temensis caught: 89
Temensis over 10 pounds: 37
Temensis over 15 pounds: 20
Temensis over 20 pounds: 10

Highlight of the Week: Great water conditions with good anglers is always a nice equation for the week! Three Argentinean, three Chilean, and two Russian anglers made for a big party after the good days of fishing. This was the perfect way to start our 5th season at Rio Marié! All anglers went home with at least one 20-pound fish each! Chilean angler Jorge caught threefish over 20 pounds, and his biggest was a 25-pound monster fish!
