Rio Marié 2017 Season Fishing Report Week 6: Oct. 19-26

Week 6: Oct. 19-26

Weather: The weather during our sixth week was sunny most days, and temperatures were stable. Temperatures ranged between 30 and 35C.

River Conditions: Water levels were stable. High water levels put sand beaches underwater, and the water in the lagoons and lakes was also high. Water levels started to drop at the end of the week.

Fishing Conditions: We had perfect fishing conditions at the beginning of the week with lots of action on flies. We even had days of 20+ fish per angler! Most of the fish we caught were from structures on the main river. Lakes and lagoons were not so productive. Due to the water levels, we had the most success fishing with streamers with intermediate and sinking tips. We also had some success using floating lines and poppers at the hottest times of each day. We are happy to find that the Rio Marié is a spectacular peacock bass fishery even with high water and can produce fish unlike any other river in the Amazon.

Fishing Stats:

Number of Anglers: 8

Butterflies Caught: 545

Temensis Caught: 57

Temensis Over 10lbs: 11

Temensis Over 15lbs: 9

Temensis Over 20lbs: 3

Highlight of the Week: The highlight of the week was the number of fish per boat. On one day, we a boat bring in 62 fish! And we also had a 25-pound monster fish on a popper caught by John Leonard! Three years ago, John caught a 24-pounder with us on the Rio Marié, and John was told that the fish would be the biggest peacock bass of his entire life. Well now Mr. Leonard has another 20+ pounder in the hall of fame! The Rio Marié is unquestionably the river of giants.
